Chevrolet’s 2027 update for its small SUVs comes down to two big stories. The Trailblazer gains a Z71 trim for the first time, and the Trax gains a new face along with a redesigned rear end.
Behind those headlines, both SUVs pick up more standard safety features, larger screens and a three-trim lineup. Here is each story in turn, followed by the upgrades the two share. The updated models are anticipated to arrive at Chevrolet dealers in spring 2027.
Story One: The Trailblazer Gets a Z71
What the Z71 Includes
Chevrolet is bringing the Z71 trim to the 2027 Trailblazer as the brand’s entry-level adventure-ready AWD model. It joins the LT and RS in the lineup and comes with:
- Standard all-wheel drive
- An off-road-tuned suspension
- An underbody skid plate
- Sport-terrain tires
The cabin gets its own touches too, with debossed front-row headrests and a new Jet Black and Storm Sky Gray interior with Orange accents.
Where the Badge Comes From
Chevrolet has used the “Z” identifier since 1963 to signal added capability. Z71 first appeared on the brand’s full-size pickup line in 1988, earning a reputation for rugged appearance and hardware. It is offered today on the Traverse, Tahoe, Suburban, Colorado and Silverado.
According to Chevrolet, adding Z71 to the Trailblazer brings the capability customers look for when the pavement ends.
The Rest of the Trailblazer Update
Every 2027 Trailblazer gets a driver-focused cabin. A new column-mounted shifter allowed Chevrolet to redesign the centre console with more flexible storage. The cupholders can retract to provide additional open storage.
Rear passengers gain their own HVAC vents, and the AutoSense power liftgate will be available.
Story Two: The Trax Gets a New Face
Front and Rear
The 2027 Trax adopts a more premium look and feel. Up front, it gets a new grille. Out back, it gets all-LED taillamps and a redesigned liftgate. New wheel designs tie the look together.
A Face for Every Trim
The Trax lineup is LT, RS and ACTIV, and each trim has its own details:

Distinctive hexagonal side vents give the instrument panel a fresh, modern appearance. A power liftgate will be available on the Trax for the first time.
What Both Models Share
More Standard Safety
Chevrolet upgraded the electrical and software architecture in both SUVs. The result is more than 20 standard safety and driver assistance features, including Adaptive Cruise Control, Front and Rear Park Assist, Safety Alert Seat and Blind Zone Steering Assist.
Features new to the standard list include Reverse Automatic Braking, Side Bicyclist Alert, Rear Cross Traffic Braking, Front Park Assist, Rear Seat Belt Indicator and Intersection Automatic Emergency Braking.
Larger Screens
Both models get a new, larger standard 11-inch-diagonal driver information centre and an 11.3-inch-diagonal infotainment screen.
Google built-in with Gemini compatibility is included, along with an OnStar Basics plan of up to eight years. Newly available OnStar One will be included for 12 months and adds services such as an in-vehicle Wi-Fi hotspot.
A New Interior Colour
Storm Sky Gray debuts on both models as an all-new interior colour for the Chevrolet brand. Chevrolet describes it as a natural, earthy tone.
