The 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 introduces one of the most comprehensive updates to Chevrolet’s full-size pickup in years. The next-generation truck has been redesigned inside and out, gains two completely new V8 engines, introduces considerably more digital technology and expands its off-road lineup.
For Canadian truck buyers, the changes go well beyond styling. The Silverado now offers four engines paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, a redesigned cabin built around substantially larger displays, seven trim levels and a maximum towing capacity of 6,214 kg when properly equipped.
Here is everything you need to know about the redesigned 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500.
What engines are available in the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado?
There are four engine choices, starting with an enhanced 2.7-litre TurboMax four-cylinder and continuing with the 3.0-litre Duramax turbo-diesel and two new sixth-generation V8 engines.
| Engine | Power | Torque | Maximum Towing |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2.7L TurboMax | 350 hp | 455 lb-ft | 4,264 kg |
| 3.0L Duramax Turbo-Diesel | 305 hp | 495 lb-ft | 5,443 kg |
| 5.7L V8 | 402 hp | 428 lb-ft | 6,214 kg |
| 6.6L V8 | 481 hp | 501 lb-ft | 4,400 kg |
Maximum ratings depend on configuration and equipment. One important change is that every engine is now connected to a 10-speed automatic transmission. That includes the TurboMax, which previously used an eight-speed automatic.
What is new about the V8 engines?
The previous 5.3-litre and 6.2-litre V8s have been replaced by new 5.7-litre and 6.6-litre sixth-generation Small Block engines.
The 5.7-litre produces 402 hp and 428 lb-ft of torque and provides the Silverado’s highest available towing capacity at 6,214 kg when properly configured. The larger 6.6-litre develops 481 hp and 501 lb-ft, making it the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 offered in the light-duty pickup segment.
The new engines incorporate both direct and port fuel injection along with revised combustion, cooling, intake and lubrication systems. The objective is not simply additional output, but improved performance under the sustained loads associated with towing, hauling and off-road driving.
How much can the 2027 Silverado tow?
Maximum towing capacity reaches 6,214 kg, or 13,700 pounds, with the 5.7-litre V8 in the appropriate configuration. The Duramax diesel can tow up to 5,443 kg, while the enhanced TurboMax reaches 4,264 kg. Payload capacity can reach 1,061 kg depending on cab, box, drivetrain and engine configuration.
This broad range of capacities allows buyers to configure the Silverado around very different requirements, from daily transportation to commercial use and recreational towing.
Is the 2027 Silverado completely redesigned?
Yes, Chevrolet has given the Silverado a new exterior rather than simply updating the existing design.
The front end is more upright and visually wider, with redesigned LED headlights, a new grille and stronger body detailing around the wheel openings and rocker panels. New LED taillamps update the rear appearance, while Custom models and above receive standard dual exhaust outlets. Higher trims receive additional visual distinctions, allowing a High Country, Trail Boss or ZR2 to look significantly different from a Work Truck or Custom.
What has changed inside?
The cabin represents an equally important part of the redesign. Every 2027 Silverado receives a new digital cockpit featuring:
- A 16.3-inch centre display;
- A 12.2-inch Driver Information Centre;
- New connectivity and infotainment technology;
- Updated materials and trim treatments;
- A redesigned dashboard and control layout.
ZR2 and High Country models go further with an 11.5-inch front passenger display, Head-Up Display and Rear Camera Mirror. Combined, these models provide more than 60 inches of digital display area. A new available Multi-Flex Centre Console can also fold into a flat work surface, providing a useful area for a laptop or paperwork when the truck is parked.
What trims are available?
The Canadian 2027 Silverado 1500 lineup includes seven models: Work Truck, Custom, Z71, Custom Trail Boss, Trail Boss, High Country, and ZR2.
There are now three factory-lifted models: Custom Trail Boss, Trail Boss and ZR2. The new Z71 provides another choice for buyers looking for added capability without moving directly into one of the lifted versions.
What is new on the Silverado ZR2 and High Country?
The ZR2 remains the most specialized off-road Silverado and receives significant upgrades for 2027. It features 35-inch mud-terrain tires, a 2-inch factory suspension lift, front and rear electronic locking differentials and Multimatic DSSV dampers supplemented by jounce dampers. An available ZR2 Bison Edition adds specialized front and rear bumpers, rocker protection, beadlock-capable 18-inch wheels and additional skid plates.
High Country focuses on comfort and premium appointments. For 2027, it receives a panoramic sunroof for the first time on a Silverado, along with real wood trim, unique seat treatments, a dedicated grille design and available microfiber suede materials.
Is Super Cruise available while towing?
Yes, available Super Cruise technology can provide compatible hands-free driving while trailering on supported roads. For drivers who regularly tow between cities or over longer highway distances around Île-Perrot and Greater Montréal, this is one of the most meaningful technology upgrades available on the new Silverado.
Canadian Availability
The next-generation Silverado 1500 is expected to reach Canadian dealerships toward the end of 2026. With new engines, dramatically updated technology, expanded off-road capability and a redesigned cabin and exterior, the 2027 Silverado represents the beginning of a new generation of Chevrolet’s full-size pickup.
