The 2027 GMC Sierra 1500 begins a new generation with major changes to virtually every part of the truck. Its exterior has been redesigned, its cabin has been reworked around a new digital interface, its V8 engine family is completely new and both the luxurious Denali Ultimate and off-road-focused AT4X receive substantial upgrades.
The Canadian lineup includes Pro, Elevation, AT4, AT4X, Denali and Denali Ultimate models. Here are 10 of the most important new features and improvements coming to the 2027 GMC Sierra 1500.
1. Two completely new V8 engines
The biggest mechanical change is the arrival of new sixth-generation Small Block V8 engines. The new 5.7-litre V8 develops 402 hp and 428 lb-ft of torque, while the larger 6.6-litre produces 481 hp and 501 lb-ft, becoming the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 in its segment.
2. Every engine now gets a 10-speed automatic
The Sierra continues to offer four engine families: TurboMax (350 hp), Duramax turbo-diesel (305 hp), 5.7-litre V8 and 6.6-litre V8. For 2027, all available engines are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission for consistent performance.
3. A completely redesigned exterior
The Sierra receives an entirely new exterior treatment with a more upright grille, redesigned signature lighting and stronger body forms. Available welcome and farewell lighting animations add visual appeal, while quad exhaust outlets are available on selected models.
4. A completely redesigned interior
New materials, colour combinations and technologies give the Sierra a substantially different cabin environment. Available real wood trim is offered on selected models, while Denali Ultimate introduces forged wood detailing and an available panoramic sunroof.
5. A new MultiPro Centre Console
A new available MultiPro Centre Console can open to create an extended work surface, providing practical utility for a laptop, tablet, or documents during a stop.
6. More than 60 inches of available digital displays
Denali Ultimate offers display surfaces totaling more than 60 inches:
- 16.3-inch centre infotainment display;
- 11.5-inch front passenger display;
- 12.2-inch Driver Information Centre;
- 15-inch Head-Up Display;
- 8.5-inch Rear Camera Mirror.
7. A new 16-speaker Bose audio system
The Denali Ultimate's available Bose Premium Series audio system uses 16 speakers, including speakers incorporated directly into the front head restraints for a focused sound experience.
8. Super Cruise continues to work while towing
Denali Ultimate includes a three-year subscription to Super Cruise driver assistance technology with trailering capability, covering more than 965,000 kilometres of compatible roads across Canada and the United States.
9. The AT4X gets 35-inch tires and upgraded suspension hardware
The 2027 Sierra AT4X uses 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires for the first time, combined with new Multimatic Jounce Control Dampers, a 2-inch suspension lift, and a dedicated hood treatment.
10. Front and rear electronic locking differentials on AT4X
Traction is maximized through electronic locking differentials at both the front and rear. The AT4X also receives a Timber Mahogany interior, enhanced seat bolstering, a flat-bottom steering wheel and standard panoramic sunroof.
